How do I use Downy Nature Blends in the wash?

How is this product different than regular Downy?
Downy Nature Blends conditions fibers with a plant based formula and a touch of coconut oil to be gentle on skin with a light fresh scent.
Why is it only 70% plant-based/bio-based?
USDA seal certifies the renewable bio-based content. While all of the conditioning active is derived from plant sources, only 70% of the overall product is active ingredient. The remaining 30% of the formula are safe and effective ingredients necessary to produce a stable plant based formula. We strive to make the formula more renewable as more of these ingredients are available in plant based versions. There are certain ingredients like water which are necessary to blend the formula and are not considered plant based, and would be considered in the remaining 30%.
If this is plant-based, what is in regular Downy?
Downy Liquid Fabric Conditioner is made with a mixture of natural and synthetic conditioners. Downy Nature Blends uses only plant-based conditioning ingredients and is certified USDA bio-based.
Is this similar to the Naturals line from a few years ago?
No, this is an entirely different, new product. Downy Nature Blends is a 70% plant-based formula designed to deliver Downy conditioning with the power of plants.
Do I need to use detergent with Downy Nature Blends?
Yes, for best results, use WITH detergent. Downy Nature Blends is a fabric conditioner that will provide your clothing with scent, softness, static reduction, and protection from the laundry damage of stretching, fading, and fuzz.
What's the difference between a fabric conditioner and a dryer sheet?
Both provide fabrics with scent and softness, and fight static; however, dryer sheets are heat activated in the dryer, whereas liquid fabric softeners are more easily infused in the wash. Additionally, fabric conditioners reduce wrinkles, provide for easy ironing, and protect from stretching, fading, and fuzz that occur in both the wash and dry processes.
What does USDA Biobased mean?
To achieve the USDA BioPreferred seal, the carbon content of the product must be at least 34% bio-based from renewable sources. Downy Nature Blends™ is 70% bio-based, certified by the USDA BioPreferred program, meaning the current formulation contains twice the bio-based content required for certification.
What is the difference between natural / organic / plant-based?
• Organic: This is a USDA certification relating to the quantity of organic material used in a product. Organic ingredients are those that are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. This is not a term that has been modified for household cleaning products. Products claiming to be 100% organic must only contain organically produced ingredients and use organic processing aids (except water and salt). Products labeled “organic” must contain at least 95% organically produced ingredients, and all remaining ingredients must consist of non-agricultural materials that are on a USDA approved list. Products labeled “made with organic ingredients” are processed products containing at least 70% organic ingredients, using processes that are permitted under the National Organic Program. • Natural: No industry standard exists for the term natural today. Basic guidelines for natural are that the product must be found in nature, be made primarily from ingredients found in nature, and be minimally processed and minimally chemically altered in the production cycle. • Bio-Based/Plant-Based: The USDA definition of Bio-Based is: a commercial or industrial product derived from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials and provide an alternative to conventional petroleum derived products. USDA certification for bio-based products is well established, and measures the amount of “new” carbon in the formula vs. “old” carbon to confirm that carbon based materials is not from petroleum sources. This term is a measure of the plant-based “new” carbon materials in the formulation.
Is the fragrance made from natural ingredients/ essential oils?
The fragrance contains both natural and synthetic materials to deliver the most consistent freshness experience.
Why is the liquid white?
This formula is free of dyes to be gentle on skin, so the liquid represents the natural color of the ingredients.
What does the coconut oil do in the product?
Coconut oil works within Downy Nature Blends to condition the formula itself. As a known softener and moisturizer, coconut oil contributes to the overall conditioning of fibers, helping to prevent stretching, fading and fuzzing. The benefits you are familiar with for coconut oil such as softening and hydration are delivered here as well.
