  • Yes, it is safe to use Downy liquid fabric conditioners and scent boosters in all types of washing machines, including all HE washing machines and combo washer/dryers. Simply add the appropriate dose of liquid fabric conditioner to your fabric softener drawer. For best results always put scent boosters directly in the wash drum before adding your clothes and other items.

  • Yes, Downy dryer sheets are safe for use in all dryers and combo washer/dryers made in North America, including HE dryers. However, we don't recommend using dryer sheets in dryers or washer/dryers combos from Europe, as they have very fine lint filters that can trap the ingredients in these sheets and restrict the flow of air. Check your owner's manual for specific instructions about your dryer.

  • Yes. P&G evaluates environmental safety of all ingredients used in our products. All Downy products are expected to be safe as long as they are used as intended and the septic system is functioning properly.

  • No. Downy does not test on animals.

    • Liquid Fabric Conditioners: Simply add the liquid fabric conditioner to your fabric softener drawer. If you do not have a fabric softener drawer on you washing machines, you can also add directly to your washer drum during the rinse cycle or use the Downy Ball if you don't feel like waiting around for the rinse to begin.

    • Scent beads: For best results always put scent boosters directly in the wash drum before you start the wash.

  • Downy liquid fabric conditioner has a shelf life of approximately 12 months after which it could begin to thicken. Additionally, storing Downy in a cold place, such as an outdoor location or a basement laundry room, can cause Downy liquid to thicken. To prevent staining, dilute the Downy with water until normal consistency before adding to the fabric conditioner drawer.

  • Downy liquid is safe to use on all washable fabrics, however we recommend following garment care label instructions for any special fabric care needs. Downy may temporarily decrease the wicking properties of some garments, but if you’ve used Downy and you don’t like the results, simply wash the garment with detergent alone to restore the wicking properties.

  • Liquid fabric conditioners are all safe to use in any water temperature. In addition to reducing the risk of clothes shrinking and fading, cold-water washing is an easy way to save energy and prevent carbon pollution. Always follow care label instructions for suggested water temperature.

  • Downy helps protect fabrics from the damage that can happen in the wash process resulting in stretching, fading and fuzzing of clothing. Downy does this by lubricating fibers which helps them move more easily against one another and as a result are less likely to form pills and recover more easily from the strain and stretch of wearing.

  • Downy beads provide a boost of scent, where Downy liquid contains extra ingredients that soften, freshen and helps protect fabrics from the damage of the wash.
