Your washer removes soils and odors from fabrics, but it can also strip clothes of their luster and longevity by stretching, fading, and pilling them. Learn about the laundry process and how Downy can help.

It starts with water

Protect your clothes using high quality detergent.

Use a high-quality detergent like Tide® which contains ingredients that remove chlorine from water, to help protect colors from fading in the wash.

What happens in the washer?

Use Fabric Conditioner to protect clothes from damage.

The washing process is not easy on clothes. First, clothes are twisted back and forth in the wash cycle. Then, the spin cycle whirls clothes at speeds over 90 mph. All of this movement can cause damage. Use Downy®Fabric Conditioner to protect your fabrics from damage in the washer.

What goes on in the dryer?

Clothes in the dryer cycle goes through friction that causes fabrics to pill and fuzz.

The dryer is another place damage can take place. The friction of the drying process can cause some fabrics to pill and fuzz. When possible, use the lowest heat setting on your dryer. Be sure to read the label to make sure you use the right settings for your laundry

We put a GoPro® in a washing machine

Sure, words paint a pretty vivid picture of what happens in the laundry process, but there’s nothing quite like seeing it for yourself. We put a camera in the washer to see firsthand what goes on once you close the door. Watch what happened!
